Today is the day

Hedgelaying day today.

I am so nervous as after we have cleared masses and masses of ivy, we have huge gaps and alot of thin patches. I do so hope I am not going to be disappointed.

Here is how it looked this time last year;

I am gonna take some pics now so you can see how bad the gaps are - thats if any of you are interest of course! LOL - its just a big thing for me cos it is gonna make our garden look so different.

Hope it all goes to plan. It should revitalise the existing hedge, so it will soon thicken up and the birds will still have somewhere to nest. Its a win win situation.

This is the amount of Ivy on the front bank - I have just pulled a load more out which choirboy had cleared but then put to secure the boundary - you can just see Ollies grave in the middle of the picture - only a path cos kids were upset he couldnt see and they couldnt visit him

You can easily gap it up with slips - try Buckingham Nurseries - they will fill out fairly soon if you are worried.

I cannot belive the size of the trunks they are laying. Staring to feel alot better now. He has brought some hawthorn plants with him to plug any gaps Flumm. More pics soon when they show a bit more progress.

See, I said it would be alright. You've obviously got a real professional involved if he's bought additional plants with him, and the birds will love the hawthorn berries.

My poor builder had me nagging around him all week poor guy...I've taught him to speak Franglais now!!

Bet it's going to look fantastic!
My SIL had that done to her hedge- and she was a bit surprised at the height it finished up- lower than expected- but one year later it looks fantastic!

When we pulled down our delapidated fence soon after we moved in, we found there were massive gaps in our hedgerow t'other said of aforementioned fence - similar to yours. We made it look worse after we'd hacked a load of the hedge back to give us the room to fence, but it soon knitted back together. We opted to re-fence in front of it as a security measure (pathway runs along the side), but the hedge you'll end up with will be much better.

Just worried about front now as they have had to plant hawthorn and so it is really open and I dont want the local yobs to start using the front garden as a cut through from the bus stop just outside our boundary like they used to.
