  • Toad in my potato sack!

Just was out checking my potatoes for signs of life, they were planted a couple of weeks ago and was hoping with the warm weather they might have sent some shoots above ground. They were fine yesterday but this morning I noticed something has been having a small dig around in the soil.. thought maybe a small bird had flow down in there for a bit of a breakfast. As I was filling back in a few of the holes something moved! I had uncovered a big fat toad.. that has somehow gotten itself into a two foot tall potato bag sitting out on my patio! There is only about eight inches of soil in there at the moment, and can't think for the life of me what would drive him to go in there. I didn't even realize toads could climb!

I think I'll just leave him in there for the moment with the hope he'll get himself out of there when he's bored.

When I lived in France years ago I took my Jack Russel with me, came out the house to see him throwing himself about and foaming at the mouth, I thought he had caught rabies and was crying my eyes out heartbroken, untill my neighbour popped out from the back of my granier where I had a lake and said,'got rid of the toad, you can catch the dog to wash his mouth out with fresh water!! My Jack had been licking the bl*******y thing!!!

a few years ago...in London i had left a bag of peat outside and i plunged my hand into it to get some for a pot and came back up with a toad.....incredible we had toads making our way through our inner london tiny garden but here i've seen the occasional small frog....but no toads.

Ewww.. FB., that's really gross. (More so because I'm a veggie!)

Just had a look out there this morning and he's still there. Yesterday all I could see was his nose, and now he's just sitting on top.

I have a big slug problem so I'm hoping he'll stick around for a while.
