  • The new face of Springwatch is.....

Well, the time for speculating is over. Enter Chris Packham - the man the BBC has unveiled as the new face of Springwatch and tasked with taking over the reins from Bill.

Springwatch will be shown on BBC2 between 25 May and 11 June.

    Put it in your diaries.

Oh good, I shall watch it then. Couldn't stand Bill Oddie's innuendos. He came across as a bit of a perv

I thought it was just me...I used to really like him,but found the last series a little "Odd".
I really like Chris,(used to have a major crush on him in the early days!).
Saw a programme of his last year & he is so genuinely excited about nature so hopefuly will make a great replacement!

I think Chris will be great. Pleased it's him and Kate. He's years of presenting experience now and widely respected. Good choice.

We weren't a Bill fan, just because he'd barge into Kate's pieces to camera with silly comments (it's just a little professionally rude to her) - just could never help himself. He's got more knowledge in his little finger about wildlife than i have in my whole house, but sometimes, it's good to shut up! We never knew how Kate remained calm some times as you could see a tad exasperation appearing every now and then.

Will def be watching with refreshed line up. Xlent news.

Bill is good when he is 'just Bill' but he gets the sleazy vote from me sometimes....Why does he have to go down that route! way to smutty.

              Chris is a great choice!

Same impression that I received and in the end couldn't watch it, liked Bill when he did programes on his own though.

I can't stand Springwatch for just the Oddy reason. I understand he's suffering from one of his bouts of depression - he does get seriously ill. However, that's no excuse for his unprofessional screen behaviour. I might even watch it this time!

I used to enjoy Bill Oddie, but I didn't watch Springwatch many times as he really spoiled the programme for me, he just couldn't shut up.

Oh I'm so pleased to hear Chris Packham has got the job. He is so genuinely enthusiastic and very easy on the eye too!! Bill really got on my nerves. I stopped watching after he made a total idiot of himself by acting out the mating rituals of deer. Gross. He is a brilliant birdwatcher though and extremely knowledgable regarding natural history in general. His books on birdwatching are hilarious. I remember being miffed with him when he criticised my beloved Spurn and then one weekend, he turned up there when it was wall to wall rare (well, five anyway) migrant birds. I asked him what he thought now and he sheepishly admitted he had been "a bit hasty". Here's to Chris! Cheers, Spiderling.
