  • Anyone seen any butterflies?

I saw a tortoiseshell on one of my plants sunning itself. It must have stayed there for at least 20 minutes. Anyone else seen any other varieties?

I've had quite a few in my garden visiting my crocus' but nothing compared to the amount of caterpillars I've dug up and taken over to the wildlife sanctury over the road.

I've seen quite a few already this year. I think there was a thread earlier about this. I have seen a peacock, a brimstone and a tortoiseshell.

Last year I was lucky enough to see a swallowtail butterfly which was magnificent and a good omen for a warm summer so, guess who's keeping her eyes peeled for another one this year

We saw one on our wall yesterday, it was brown and orange - is that tortoishell? I don't know their names (though I know a cabbage white from when my dad grew cabbages). It was sunning itself too and didn't move when dh put his finger to its legs, then it flew away. I'm looking forward (NOT!) to stag beetle season - I think its Autumn when the males fly to find a mate and we have a woodpile just for them. Why oh why? Yes; I know, they're endangered bla bla bla.... It was my idea too. Doh.

Well according to my big girls bumper book of flying things you have a Polygonia c-album, otherwise known as a comma.
                      Very Pretty to.

I have seen a Fritillary and a Tortoiseshell so far this year.
                      1 of each.

Marthaclamtis - you have stag beetles, you lucky girl! I've only seen one my entire life and even then it was dead!

                            Yes.

Began seeing the yellowish "cabbage white" lookalikes a couple of weeks ago.
Seen about a dozen of them up to now - in the last couple of weeks.
Saw a couple of "Peacock" butterflies (the one's with the "eyes"on the wings) about a week ago.
Saw a couple of "Tortoiseshells" (the one's with orange and black semi-checkered apearance) in the last few days.

Also saw the first aphids a few days ago.
I saw the ants a week or two ago.
                            .
