    Found a newt in my little pond! a very happy headfry
    Just hope it has a mate, need to learn more about them now....

    Yay! It's most likely a palmate newt, look at this link for identification of amphibians: National Amphibian Survey - Survey Pack Scroll down to the powerpoint of amphibian ID, then you can identify what type of newt you have!!

      I love newts, had about 6 in pond last year and when I was moving a growbag up the top end of the garden, I found 4 underneath. Thought they were dead, but when I picked one up it started to move. I think I read afterwards they go into some sort of stupor state. Anyway moved all 4 back to the pond area. They were probably really miffed with me, having made it all the way to the top of the garden but I didn't think being exposed as they would have been, was good either.
