  • Squirrel problem.

Last year I noticed gnawing marks around the hole of my bluetit box and this year the little bleepers have gnawed great chunks off the poor little birds roof trying to get at the chicks so I have put grease on the roof so hopefully they will slide right off...ha ha

Bluetit boxes have a small access hole. I have seen envious sparrows trying to widden the hole by pecking around the edges in an attempt to make it wide enough for themselves. Some bluetit boxes are fitted with a metal ring around the hole to stop other wildlife getting in - or making a home for themselves.
