I have just been round to my parents house. They have a large Catoniasta bush up there garage its about 6ft x 6ft. There must have been a couple of hundred Bees on it. Amazing. They have a smaller one in the front garden which was exactly the same. So want Bees on your plot get a Catoniasta!

I also have a cotoneaster in my front garden, there are several varieties of this shrub, mine is multistemmed and about 8-9ft tall. It too is a haven for bees and also for birds who love the berries in the autumn, in addition I get insect eaters like goldcrests and warblers in it who seem to find many tiny things too eat under its leaves. It is one of my favourite small trees (tho' technically it's a shrub as it is multistemmed), it also reproduces very easily from the seeds which the blackbirds drop
