It's so exciting this year, the first I've had a garden and been able to get out in it (last year the chemo made my skin extremely sensitive to the sun so I couldn't go out. At all). After years of living in a big city, it's lovely.

On the weekend, I saw what I thought was a very large bee. It was in fact two bees sharing some bee loving. This is good though, right..good for bee populations. We get quite a few bees around the garden, particularly now that things have started to flower.

Today, as I was moving a bag of compost, I spotted two baby lizards..awww. They were very slow, and I managed to touch them (with gloves on)...probably because it was in the shade and they hadn't warmed up yet. Hope they eat lots of nasty bugs and slugs for me! They've gone off to live in the lavender bushes now. Bless.

Is there anything more I can be doing to encourage the good wee beasties who'll eat the pests?

Do wildlife ponds need to be in full sun or can they be in shade/partial shade?

If your thinking about getting a pond, you can get some plastic one's here. I'm planing on getting the big one once the weather gets abit cooler next, so I can get outside and dig

I'm OK then!!! Seriously though, it does help. I have two wild gardens and they are a haven for butterflies, insects (including those I don't like!) but especially birds.
A good beginning is half the work.

I made a small pond on my allotment. I'm lucky that there is an aquatics shop next to our allotment, so I asked the dude if he had any offcuts of the pond liner (the butyl stuff), and he gave me a huge sheet for about £20.

It's now populated with water snails - cripes only knows how they got there, there's no water for about 200 yards!

The link says it needs to be in full sune away from trees.
Sadly that means I have nowhere to put one All the sunny spots have been taken by my raised beds on a first come first serve basis Looks like the wildlife will have to make do with the nettle patch and log pile area without a pond

Any pond is better than no pond I would say just find the best site you can, even if it's not perfect. The link also says that a pond is one of the best things you can do for wildlife

On gardeners world awhile back, Monty Don made a pond in a shady area under a tree! He said it would go black but that's what he wanted I don't think you can go wrong really lol In the wild you get ponds hidden by tree's etc

Wish I had room for a pond. Still, the wildlife seem to like my toddler's paddling pool. Saw a magpie having a drink from it this morning...
