Well played, Bilbo - I had no doubts that you would succeed!
I am sure that a steady calm approach helped, although I'm not sure about telling them what you were up to did.
Just out out interest, what was Management saying whilst taking pics? ('that's it - squeeze up on the back row - big wasp in the middle, duck down a bit, all the baby wasps together at the front.....lovely...all looking this way...? Yes, now on the count of three ...one, two, three ...CHEESE!!')
Thanks Hazel, no guarantee I have succeeded - they may desert this little nest and build another somewhere really awkward. Have put some piccies on the blog for you (but not for Burnie - who I think just wanted to see stings!! )
Well done, Bilbo ! I was going to ask if you could post it (the nest) to me, as this is the first time for many years we have had no wasp nests in the garden and I have all kinds of nasties to deal with. To make matters worse, we have no hoverflies, lacewings or ladybugs and early springtime we had plenty. I think the peculiar weather has caused this.

Which just proves what useful little peeps they are!
As for sending you the nest - sorry mate, no chance! I have always wanted one and at the end of the season when I am sure this is no longer in use it will take pride of place in the shed or greenhouse as a piece of art - I think they are beautiful.
I'm fairly certain they are never used twice therefore putting an old one in your garden is not going to encourage/attract a hive.
