  • butterflies everywhere !

I am amazed this year of the number of butterflies in my garden!!
I've had lot of white one but also some amazing painted one....
Also a lot of different bees, feeding on the red clover invading the loan... I've stopped mowing it, so it looks ugly but at least its "buzzing"

Next year I will definitely invest in a good identification book for insects and start making lists of the different species and their frequencies, who knows, maybe some of them are pretty rare!
I think the green buzz affecting London people right now is doing a lot of good for nature in the capital!

We normally have a huge population of butterflies, but this year has seen only the odd one or two. I am hoping they will soon make an appearance as they certainly add to the colour in the garden. A couple of years ago we had our first hummingbird moth in the garden and I was hoping that we might get another visit from one this year.

Had quite a few cabbage whites earlier, but now seeing lots and lots of the pretty coloured ones. Also the moths are about in the evenings - thankfully not seen any daddylonglegs yet (they give me the creeps)

I've seen a few butterflies and a few bumble bees on the citrus but the only honey bee I've seen this year was in my bedroom. (OH was able to reach it and put it outside.) I've got a small buddlea coming on and hopefully will soon be big enough to put along the fence and attract some insects to my garden.

I guess its because everything flowered very early on this year... don't know why but the sage and thyme were in flower at the beginning of March !
and they are still going.... a favorite for the bees!
