Amazing Moth?? but what is it?

Yesterday we found am amazing moth (see pic),

But I cant find what it is?? does anyone know??

It was big, and looked exactly like a stick.

It's a Buff-tip moth, I think.

Tulip - clever you. Ive just looked it up and I think you are right.

It really was amazing. Big and just like a broken stick. Seeing as we live in a forest and it likes decidiuos trees - there clearly is no question.

can't claim to be the fountain of all knowledge on the moth front - was reading a book on moths a couple of nights ago, and there was a pic of one, was thinking what an extraordinary wee beastie it was - well spotted that you saw one in situ. - beautiful aren't they!

I read a little onit (after you id'd it for me), It says it lives on many different trees but likes Goat WIllow.

I have a small goat willow in my garden, so Im going to keep a look out for its catterpillars - They can have the Willow - they are much prettier than it :-).
