May I suggest you visit herpfrance.com to help you recognise the 12 species of snakes in France,5 of which are venemous.Not wishing to alarm,but don't use uk knowledge,some of their species are not what they seem.There's several snakes that look like our viper that aren't.You can also check out the lizards and other stuff as well.
