  • Butterfly ID- great site!!!!

I've just found this site and wanted to share it with you!
What I esp like about it is that there are piccies of the butterfly with wings open and closed ( Why do they always do that when you want to take a piccie???) and also male and female!!! BRILL!

After 1/2 hr in the garden I've spotted

      Painted Lady
      Comma
      Peacock
      Tortoiseshell
      Cabbage White
      Orangetip

...couldn't have ID'd that lot yesterday!!!

most of them were on the oregano/marjoram flowers!

Ooh, thanks Nicos for that - brilliant site.

I was just thinking of doing a photo album on butterflies around here. The Budleia is in full bloom and we have some lovely ones here at the moment so this site will be lost helpful.

          TEB...that's interesting!!!
I'm trying to ID a similar/same one with a spot on it's wing in the same place- just not been able to get near enough to take a piccie...
There's a meadow one which looks similar too

Sorry Nicos, after I took a picture I realised I had it wrong and it is in fact a Gatekeeper (female), very similar though.

PS I especially like the latin pronunciation utility, I am useless with Latin words and people either end up in gales of laughter or want to harm me

                TEB....Ha!!!...snap!!!!!
                pretty little thing isn't it??

( I've just downloaded mine from camera to Picasa and can see them more clearly!

(I really must find out how to reduce the size of my piccies)

Maybe we could do with finding out what the caterpillars look like so at least we know what we're squishing on our veg!!!

Anyone know of any good sites????

( I'll have another go at posting piccies later)

That's a great link Nicos. Thank you. And the caterpillars are on the site if you go into the details for the species.
