        • I guess the four-petalled flowers remind them of their caterpillar food plants, like Lady's Smock and Jack-by-the-hedge.

            • I know not everyone likes wasps, but I do

Despite being very exposed, this paper wasp has survived hail and torrential rain, so far.

                • After 11 pictures of a bare box, I finally managed to synchronize my clicking finger with the bluetit's arrival with mid morning snacks for the family. I think by tomorrow the babies will be gone, it's nearly 3 weeks they've been feeding to the best of my reckoning.

The 3 or 4 wispy bits sticking through the joints of the box are from my coir hanging basket liner. That's mostly what she used to make the base of the nest

                  • Baby bluetits all gone. I was just in time to see the parents leading them off out of the garden. So that's it for another year again.

Potter wasps or mason bees I think, possibly the latter, as we get mason bees in our windows, too. Not knowing they were there one year I opened the window only to be scattered with broken 'pots', pollen and bee larvae
But the pots looked a lot like those made by potter wasps, although I've only seen them on plants down here.

                      • Thanks, I've left them where they are and haven't told our lodger about them as she will want to destroy them!

                        • Taken at Hitchin Lavender Farm. It's well worth a visit if you get the chance (but only if you like the smell of lavender ).

Found this chap in my garden this morning - the closest id I can find is a green pheasant but not sure.
