  • Does anyone know what type of bumble bees these are, sorry one of the pic's is quite fuzzy, the wind was blowing and the flowers were waving about
One bee just has an orange tail and the rest of him is black. The other one has an orange tail and a yellow stripe. Sorry I don't know how to do the little pictures, just the large ones!

    • Is it the Red tailed bumblebee http://www.bumblebee.org/lap.htm

      • Oh yes, that's it. Thank you VC, I wondered if it was a red tailed bumble bee but half hoped it was something more unusual!

          • Beautiful pictures VC, I love snails, I think slugs got a raw deal as they didn't get a shell so not very appealing at all, but basically no different to snails!

            • I like snails too - especially the banded ones. They all seem to have different markings. They're obsessed with the fennel and dangle from it like Chr****as decorations

              • Crikey, VC, either your apple tree is very low or your ragwort (it is ragwort, is it?) is enormously tall!

                Boy bees too!

                • I bet the fennel will give the snails a nice flavour, if escargots happen to be anybody's thing.

It is very low and its on a slope!! Its the only apple tree that I've grafted myself - think its Sunset - so I'm pleased to see apples on it. It had 3 last year Lots of suckers coming from the rootstock though

                      • I was delighted to see four peacock butterflies on my buddleia, there are quite a few of them this year, I saw a red admiral too. I do love butterflies!
