Not the best of photos- I can't get any closer as they get agitated. The second brood of swallows in my "car port". (An old stone barn.) The swallows nest there every year but its just so exciting when they have two broods!
Not sure which fritillary this one is. It is quite small - it is on wild mint flowers. Also not as flighty as most, hence the not entirely blurred photo.
Argiope bruennichi. I'm a touch phobic about spiders but she is a beauty.
They are too big (or lazy or efficient?) to go into the flowers but simply drill a hole on the outside. Fine on these but a right pain on my broad beans where I have had to net them to keep these bees out!
They are big and buzzy but I've never heard of anyone being stung
Having to really bend its body to get through the base of the flower
The colour hasn't come out, but they are a dark blue/black.
Thank you. Googled Tussock moths and I think it is the Pale Tussock. apparentley used to be known as the Hop-Dog because it was wide-spred on Hop farms!
Incredible photo PP.
All credit to you PP, BionicBarb, Verinda - to name but a few. You take some fantastic photos David Battenborough - eat your heart out - these are the people you need on your camera crew
