  • A couple more birds of prey pics. One of a kestrel eating a worm in my driveway, and of course, the obligatory arty shot of one hovering.

    • OH found this chap being battered about by the strong winds we had here in the Auvergne. He spent the night in the annexe and we let him go this morning with a little sugar water.
Huge monster! Giant Peacock Moth - Wingspan is about 14cm - 4 and a half inches!
Sitting on a small blueberry bush for reference.

      • We've had some big stuff, now for some small stuff. These visit in numbers every winter, but disappear as soon as it starts to warm up.

I have no idea what it is, but it looked like a jewelled brooch.
I think it's a jewel beetle. Is it this one? Dicerca berolinensis

Beautiful photos BF. Longtails are my favourite bird, I get them through the winter, although the bluetits do their best to drive them away.

                    • Nothing seems to faze them when they visit me. They feed happily alongside dunnocks, blackbirds, even robins!

                      • I Love your photos of long tailed tits, they are amazing.

We have a pair in our garden, I think they might have a nest, I'd love to see it. The babies must be tiny!

                            • Six spot burnet moth on the chives.

The herb bed was one of the things that was victim of my getting Lyme Disease and is now completely full of buttercups, bindweed and brambles with only the chives and some mint (of course) fighting their way into the light. Hopefully I'll be strong enough to tackle it soon, assuming the house hasn't been swallowed by then!

But the wildlife likes it untidy I noticed this small bush cricket, too.

                              • Todays offering is Mr and Mrs Blackbird. Currently raising their second brood in my shrubbery. I can't understand why instead of using the same nest, they built another only a couple of feet away.
