        I haven't seen one starling in or around my garden this year, and there used to be dozens.

                      Yes, it's a shame (and a surprise!) that the adult moth is just a boring drab brown colour.

                      • There were lots of bees on my cotoneaster today and they were definitely irritated with the butterfly and bumping him off the flowers but I didn't get a photo of the action unfortunately.

                        • I like the Speckled Wood butterfly, you almost always find it flying in dappled shade. Your one seems to be out in the open, must have been hungry!

                          Everyone should grow a cotoneaster, a great bee food plant.

                          • It was dappled, the photos happen to be in the bright bits. Ah I am glad to know what type of butterfly it is, I meant to look it up.

                            I'm going to take cuttings and grow more cotoneasters!

                            • our flowers are all opening up now so bees are plenty in our garden at the mo I was scared stiff of bees before I got my own garden now I love watching them rooting around in the pollen
