Moopmoop, I think your local butterfly is a Wall Brown. I haven't seen one for a good few years since I moved down south:

Yes Martin that looks like the butterfly I know and love. The damselflies aren't all that common but I see a few of them a year.

A tortoiseshell butterfly - not sure whether its large or small though

Large is much less colourfull (and I've never seen one because they are really rare).

I seem to recall that the female Small Tortoiseshells tend to be larger than the males, so yours was probably a girl.

Tough one. There are so many geometrid moths that I struggle to tell them apart. Also your pic isn't the clearest! But my best guess is the Flame Carpet moth, Flame Carpet Xanthorhoe designata - UKMoths
