  • It looks like a spiky moth to me.

I saw this red admiral today looking particularly beautiful.

    • Found this speckled wood (at least, I think that's what it is) in my living room today. It's since been liberated onto a buddleia bush

        • Nice one, WPG. It looks very fresh and bright, I understand that in good years there may be three generations of this butterfly, so could be recently emerged.

          • This barn owl came to visit the orchard today, but my chickens made such a fuss about him siting in the oak tree he went and sat in the very old and not overly healthy holly in our field. Which was a good spot for me to get this photo.

            • Not sure what this LBB is. Perhaps a juvenille whitethroat?

                • I think it could be a warbler of some kind, maybe a grass hopper warbler? Or a willow warbler maybe.

                  • After consulting my books, I reckon it's more than likely a wood warbler due to the eye markings and a yellowish breast.

                    • Found this wasp spider in my lavender at my old house

Then last year, at my new house I got a shock seeing this guy or rather girl in my pond. Then once I got used to her I kept going back

                      • Will the grass snake eat the fish?

                        • They will eat bugs, mice, rats and fish but it never touched my fish. I no longer have that problem anyway. An otter came along last November and decapitated most of my fish and the heron finished off the ones the otter left.

                          Darn wildlife!!!

                            • I have now looked at all your pics. They are amazing both picture quality (I am jealous - I was told at college I shouldn't do photography as I was not very good) and the wildlife itself. As for the knowledge..... peeps could have their own threads. Martin could have one called 'Name that butterfly!'

I better give you some more pics. They are over the last 18 months at my new house. It is nice to do something with them other then take them and leave them on my pooter.

This fella turned up the day after the otter had been and killed most of the fish. He stuck around for a week. I think he was after the newts. He is only the second one I have ever seen

This year the pear tree had masses of flowers and was buzzing from the amount of honey bees. I took so many pics. Strange tho, because the pear crop wasn't that great, but never mind

                              • I can't imagine a kingfisher in a garden, that must have been lovely to see. I take it you live in or very near the country to be getting the wildlife you do
