      • Ring Neck parakeets. Like all parrots, I keep cockatiels, they can be very destructive.

They are breeding fast in UK. There are loads at Kew. At some time they will have to be culled. I hate to think what they could do to an orchard.

        • Is that a greater or lesser spotted woodpecker burnie? Apart from the size I can't tell them apart!

          • That's a Greater Spotted, we don't get Lesser Spotted up here, this is a male with a red patch on the back of it's head, a Lesser has a red crown on top of it's head and white "ladder" barring on it's back. You of course also have Middle Spotted in France to add to the confusion.

            • just an interesting fact for those not all that familiar with greater spotted woodpeckers that red spot starts on the top of the head and migrates to the back as it grows.

to be honest I don't know if the spot moves or if head skin grows from the middle making the spot appear to move,

              hopefully someone can enlighten me

apparently an interesting fact because I made it up, seems there is no connection between juvenile scull caps and the red nape of adult males,

                      • Grey Heron and Snipe - easy to identify them. Click on the images and they're named.

It's now bare of berries. It's the only shrub I've seen blackcaps on but they were obscured by branches or moved too quick.

                          • This little chap barely ever leaves my garden. Sings to me constantly when I am outside, and is certainly not afraid to get up close to me.
