  • Wee Calf

    Ok - Not quite wildlife

Here is the wee calf. She is now a week old. Her mother was the cow that went down with milk fever (staggers).

You could classified her as wildlife now because you have no chance catching it

Nice to see a calf running about at this time of the year.

I have a lot of respect for spiders, amazing beasties but they scare the carp out me.

Reminds me of my pet spider from Glasgow. Lived under the TV and at 10pm would come out - rush round the living room (Laminate) and return to the lair.

Read that if you put them outside they will just die. Best avoided.

            • Spider problem solved!! I waited until he was out of the overflow and then shoved a cork in it. Caused a moment of panic on the spiders part but today he has obviously taken notice of the eviction notice and gone elsewhere.

Nice to see this visitor today refuelling. I grow plants like these liatris exactly for this reason.

Great but I’d be worried about where he is squatting now!!

                    • The bird feeders are a magnet for the tits - sometimes 20+ birds trying to feed. They don't stay still long enough for a photo - so here are just a few of them.

There was a bird in the GH today. I shooed him out but he left this feather behind. I know what it was as I had a really close look at him, perched on a flowerpot. Do you know what it was?

                          • I know I said I "knew" what it was - but I'm not so sure now!!
My first impression when I saw it at the back of the GH was of a spotted chest - thought it was a thrush but when I went around the back of the GH I could see its hooked beak. Couldn't go back into the house for a camera as the dogs were frantic to get at it.
It was lovely to see it close up - it wasn't ringed.

                            • Did it have a bluish tinge ?, if do coulda been a male sparrowhawk. generally smaller than the hen but ,,,who knows ?
does seem to be browner tho which would point toward a female sh, but,,,,who knows ?
