Googled a good few birds - not coot, moorhen, bittern...

Heron looks possible - can't see a pic of one that young but the shape is about right.

Evening RT - just wondering what colour(s) you might be able to pick from the adult feathers if any? Baby and adult birds are normally very different. I keep thinking crow type bird, but beaks not right.

P.S. Where did next door find it - chances are it only fell a few feet so if the rivers some distance (think baby bird scale) it won't have come from there.

just had look at some birds, the beak does favour the gull more than anything else, but also has a narrow duck shape,

I've also found this site about looking after an injured young chick.

                            Baby birds, Injured adults.

Blimey - stumped I am. I've checked through me 'Encyclopedia of British Birds' and it just doesn't fit anything obvious Bill says duck type feet say not

Maybe it's not British n thats why it's not in me book mehbe? Hmmmmmm

Warmth, water and green stuff should be safe enough to keep it going till the morning. Have fun!!

                              Keep us informed eh?
