    hi,
there used to be (and think there still is) a friendly and helpful worm forum on the The Recycle Works Ltd site.
I've got a can-o-worms wormery too, not come across the 'cut in half' worms, only thing i can think of is, if it's only a few, that perhaps they are crawling up to the edge, or down from the underside of the lid as you put the lid back on, and get caught.? if they are 'stringy' in the middle and bobbly, then it might be overfeeding or not enough air in the mix- the worms get poisoned, but you would know if it's that as the compost will smell pretty bad.

ta for that! found a few, one of which is using old car tyres - says you get a tyres worth every 4-6 weeks - sounds great but not how you get the bottom of the 4 tyres out the stack without disturbing everything else!

found another link for a much cheaper wormery so might just go for that - ta

yes i saw that one with the tyres i would not know how you would empty that thought??
but you can make one with big plastic boxes but you got to make sure th worms don't get out lol

Here's a pic of my home made wormeries at the back of my garage. As you can see they are just old paint tubs. The smaller pot at the bottom is used for catching the liquids then the tub above that catches the compost. I have a layer of small gravel in the bottom of that tub. The next tub up is where the worms live and the top one contains their food. I've drilled about 30 holes about 10cm each in the bottom of the top and middle tubs for the worms to have easy access and also to let the compost fall down into the bottom one.

I've left the wormeries to themselves for a few months and just this week I've taken about 40 litres of compost out of the two of them.

I have no problems at all with the worms escaping from the tubs.
