I know where your coming from HF - I think the same has happened to us. Keep on going...it's just bad luck! I'm going to stick a pair of heavy duty gloves in my car so if I see any on the road I can move them on. I've tried to move the odd ones before near us but by the time I've gone back to the house, go my gloves on - they've moved off!

Don't be sad, Headfry. For every one dead I dare say ten have survived due to your care and kindness.

Buried little hoggy at the weekend.....so sad. It had made a beautiful nest in the hog box, masses of dried leaves, grass and fresh ivy leaves. It was crammed full and looked lovely and snug.
I have put a little food out each night, what if there is one still about! but alas, I think they have all gone now. Will take a ride over to Tiggywinkles to donate some food and old towels (it they want them that is)
Last year we had 3 babies about the gardens, I saw no babies this year?

Maybe you can find some info on this site HF? Hard though it is I imagine the mortality rate for Hhogs is quite high?

The 2nd link has a bit about how much Hhogs should weigh to be able to hibernate safely (ie enough 'fat' to wake up next year), and something about seeing Hhogs during the day.
