I have to say, my OH and I have watched various documentaries about the plight of the bee, and we (interested laypeople) reached that conclusion ourselves.
Particularly with the American system of bee keeping, where thousands and thousands of hives are transported across the US on lorries and placed in vast areas of monoculture - like the almond orchards. The stress of transport must have an effect, but also the lack of diversity in food source has to be detrimental to the health of a colony.
If we need five a day to be healthy, its not such a far stretch to imagine that maybe bees do too. -
They actually blend the different nectar together for different purposes. They're amazingly clever.Comment
