I was shocked when I discovered some in my water butt last year. This part of Scotland isn't really known for them.
Not to hijack your thread ( ) but someone suggested adding a layer of oil to your water butt .... do you happen to know if that is vegetable oil? (As opposed to non-edible type oil )
Sorry

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day
I think vegetable oil would work fine Caro.
I thought there was a 'mozzie' flying against our kitchen window the other day but then I spotted it's mates swarming up & down above the shrubs & realised they were winter gnats, tough little devils aren't they!
We had a Thai student staying with us when a giant Daddy-Longlegs flew in. He jumped around shouting Mosquito Mosquito! If it had been I think he would have needed a blood transfusion rather than malaria tablets.
