I'd guess it's only frozen just far enough down for us not to be able to plant things or pull up our leeks! If they're going at it from below they've got a head start, so to speak!
Didn't the snow insulate the ground from freezing? There was a you tube clip of a groundhog popping up out of the snow in different places posted by someone on one of these threads - not good enough at the search function to find it!
Nah- we had -10C just before the snow- and a couple of nights ago, so everything is still rock solid.
We even had a molehill in the snow which was a good 8" deep!!!

My mother used to shove the hosepipe down the molehills and fill them up with water - sometimes it took hours - but that won't work in freezing weather.
