  • First Bee in the Garden.

Saw the first bee of the season, a few minutes ago.
I guess that means spring is almost here.
The sun is out at the moment and the first of the crocus have opened today, although the bee appeared to be "just passing through" on a scouting mission.
It was a honey bee. I was expecting bumbles to be the first.
Hopefully she'll report back to the nest - masses of crocus, helleborus, snowdrops and primroses waiting for them.

What cheering news, FB - and the flowers sound good- any chance of a photo?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I'd love to do a photo, but the OH has taken the camera to London on a day trip.
I'll try to get a decent pic in coming days.

I managed to take this pic a few days ago - just some almost-open crocus under some light snow.
No bees around at that time:

How lovely FB - I can see why the bees kept away though!

....and a few minutes ago, a queen bumblebee sat sunbathing on the fence, before proceeding to the crocus.

              Great stuff.

Honey bees will fly year round if the weathers warm enough and there's something worth collecting.

I seem to remember reading about some bumble bees starting to stay active through the winter due to warmer weather and more exotic winter flowering shrubs. Probably not this year though!

Winter flowering plants could be a good investment.

That's good news. I've seen a few bugs flying around but have yet to see any bees myself.

Lots of honey bees and a few bumblebees today.
I've rarely seen so many bees.
So many, in fact, that they were sometimes landing in a crocus that was already occupied, resulting in some angry buzzing.
