Making me feel quite randy lol. I attempted to clear my pond today. It is full of algae and every time I scooped a load there was a frog hanging on for dear life. I noticed a few dollops of spawn obviously they are still raring to go. Please tell me what I should do with all the resulting offspring. It looks so yucky I usually tip it down the drain.

Brengirl, leave it to do it's thing. Those that survive will eat you out of slugs etc. and in 3 years time all be back to make more slug munchers.

I built a wildlife pond last year and someone gave me loads of frog spawn which hatched! Are they too young to come back and spawn this year?

Next door's pond was alive with frogs croaking & mating on Saturday but not seen any in our pond. We never seem to get frogspawn although there are usually a couple of frogs in it during summer, we don't have fish so it's not as though it gets eaten. I'm thinking of asking the neighbour can I have some of his if there's any, I know you're not supposed to swap spawn from one pond to another as it can spread diseases etc. but I don't think it will matter as we're right next to each other.

Oh lucky you to have newts! How big is your pond? Just that I'm trying to work out where we could put one in our new garden... Does it need to be in full sun? Or somewhere where it gets shade at a particular time of day? From the frog point of view that is.

We haven't got space for a very large pond, but once OH has finished laying the base for new shed I think I'll get him digging up lawn for a pond. He's not much on the plant aspect of gardening (though is very fond of scented plants) but loves digging holes! We're told that there are frogs and a toad in the garden (both by Estate Agent, who played with cousin just 4 houses away when he was a kid, and our Vendor) so it would be lovely if we could have frog spawn or toad spawn in the future.
