  • Horace has returned

Just walking from the potager back to the greenhouse and Horace the Hoopoe leapt out of the grass and flew over the trees into the field behind my neighbours barn.
There really is no mistaking one when you see them close up in flight, it was only about 10 ft or so from me, beautiful to see.
I'm just shocked that they are this far north so early in the year. I know we have had an unseasonable warm spell for about 10 days or so, but its considerably fresher here today.
I like to think its the same one as I've seen here in the last few years, but tbh I dont know anything of their seasonal habits.
Best I read my book that SS gave me.

Lucky you. I've heard them here every year but I have never seen one They are beautiful birds. The one that I have seen is a golden oriole they always seem to be wolf whistling - not at me though, I'm sure
