  • What a wildlife day

Not strictly in my garden but fings wot I saw today on my evening constitutional:

I had already seen a hoopoe in the garden, then me and the boy went out.
Walking alongside the field full of rapeseed, at the far end I saw 3 fawn, not very old at all, jumping up and down near the far fence.
Turning right into the big field, we walked down to the stream and a heron lifted off about 6ft in front of us.
Walking past the deepest bit and a ragondan splashed its tail in annoyance at being disturbed.
About 2/3 round the big field and the boy was in the ditch just in front of me. I heard lots of "cheep cheep" and saw 5 little mallard chicks paddling for their lives. Screamed at the boy, and for once he listened. He was desperate to eat one, as it was moving right under his muzzle, but fortunately he left it.
Finally came back out onto the road, and 3 little weaners, domestic pigs from the smallholding up the road, had escaped and were looking at me and the boy with some surprise.

We walk twice a day every day when I'm home, and have done since I've lived here, and I've never had a walk quite like that.

Yeah sorry Jacob, forgot my English French bearings. The locals here tell me they arent coypu, but they really arent far off it.
They are all around the ditches and culverts here, the farmers hate them as they burrow into the ditch edges and erode them, many cases of tractors getting close to the edges and the banks giving way.
Saw a couple of sparrows and a pigeon this morning, so not at all the same!!

There was a bit of a Mexican standoff with us looking at them and them looking at us, then they all turned tail and scarpered into the hedges.
The weaners seem to escape more days than they dont, they live about a mile or so from me, but I have seen them in the field opposite me before. So cute.
