I keep bees now. Would not and still do not tolerate any wasps nest in garden: too unpredictable..and dangerous...
Better to get rid when small... gives them a chance to resettle elsewhere. We have an old house: wasps nests are a hazard in the lofts...some of which require the agility of a gymnast to access...so I do not fancy encountering a wasp when I am bent double with my feet in the air, my stomach on a large joist and my nose touching another joist 3/4 metres lower than my stomach....
I have always had wasp nests in the garden, except for one year when all the nasties had a field day. It is over thirty years ago since I was last stung by a wasp as I have found that if I leave them alone, they leave me alone. They do really get rid of many pests and, as I am an organic gardener, I am always happy to see them.
