  • Allotment digger

I have a "no-dig" allotment and I noticed this year that a number of the plants on my plot were tippping sideways into little depressions. I also noticed that when I was planting seedlings the dibber would often just sink away into the soil very easily. There were a few mole hills dotted about the place but I never caught sight of them, or any mole for that matter. Until today....

I was busy hand weeding when I noticed out of corner of my eye an object bumbling along the path. I thought it was a mouse but was too dark and totally oblivious of me. I took a few photos of the little chap and he was quite happy to bumble along amongst the plants.

I tried to feed him/her a few earthworms but oddly the soil was remarkably devoid of them? The soil is extremely friable and was littered with worm holes/trails but there were none to be found. Very odd.

    Anyway, here it is.

He looks just like Moley off the Cosgrove Hall version of Wind in the Willows - he just needs a little pair of specs

Cor, what a beaut, how much du want for him?
Save Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock. Coma and Painted Lady butterflies. Dont cut stinging nettles in summer.
Only cut nettles grown in the shade.
