  • I've got a Wigeon

Well several Wigeon i think, i just cant see them but can hear them whistling to each other. This little chap was walking about on our duck pond ice but wouldn't let me get close enough for a really good picture.

Does anyone know if the ducks and drakes make the same whistling sound?

We get stock doves when the weather is taking a turn for the worse and today we got a pair of redwings just as it started snowing. We put lots of food out for the birds including apple peelings in a sheltered place where not much snow gets to. Apart from the the flying pigs we just love watching them feed.

            Thats cruel

I've never seen a recipe for wigeon.

They all seem to have cleared off today, cant hear their whistling any more. They seem to like ice and thats melted today but it sounds as if it will be back tomorrow according to the forecast so perhaps they will be to.

Used to be eaten quite commonly in the past when they were more abundant. Bet they taste just like all ducks. Yummy!
