No new visitors yet but we've had 5 robins in the garden at the same time, which is a record.

We have 3 Rowan trees to the front of the house that have attracted about 50 Waxwings. Apparantly they have arrived in great numbers this year so much so that if you see a Rowan tree its worth checking. They really are stunning.

Wow that pic of the waxwing has inspired me to get my boots on and go hunting rowan trees! In a bit ... after a coffee ...
The robins seem very tolerant of each other since the snow, a few minor disagreements but no major fights. Five were back again this morning and at one point four were in the same corner of the garden for a few seconds. If only I'd had my camera ready!

Have to use the lottie for my bird feeders as my garden is too small and too near a road to attract many birds; the cat doesn't help either. The birds on the allotment are so shy, I can't get close enough to see what they are. Oh, and I saw a bus the other day, now that's rare at the minute.

Redwings
We occasionally see a woodpecker but over the last month we have a couple of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers that have become regular visitors to our bird table and a Bullfinch
Although this week my son spotted some Redwings feeding off our hawtorn tree, this morning we counted 8.Last edited by Scarlet; 23-12-2010, 06:45 PM.

I've had, as first time visitors, over the last two weeks, Lesser spotted woodpecker, Siskin, pied wagtail and today, 7 or 8 redwings, the weather is harsh but it's given me some great sightings.
What's also apparent is that some birds seem to have forgotten territorial feuds, I have multiple male chaffinches, blackbirds feeding alonside each other, only the robin seems intent on keeping all others at bay."We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses."-- Abraham Lincoln

Just been watching a couple of foxes frolicking in the snow. There's a big one and a litle one but not sure whether they are related?
I would like to think its a dog fox 'courting' a young vixen!
