  • I saw one!

A rare beasty - found quite near Binbag's house - roaming the car park in Morrisons.

ALL the petrol station staff were chatting about it. Hadn't seen one since last spring; so they were over the moon!!!

And what a day to see one. The Winter Solstice. Absolutely fantastic.

I feel humbled and priveledged. Actually, all of us paying for our fuel felt a little excited and [sorry to say it] some of us were shaking with the sheer audacity of this beastie coming out in DAYLIGHT.

I took a photo just for you lot - some of you may never have seen one of these magnificant beasts.

    Quite a sight indeed

I am one of the special ones who has one of these that goes past the house at least once a day/night during the cold spell.

Why does the sign on the back say 'spreading' when it's actually just pouring it out in a line!? I got pebble-dashed by one on Friday.

One comes down our road without spreading on it's way to more deserving roads...We threw snowballs at it last time and the driver gave us a cheery two fingered wave!

Looks like it is "Spreading" its' wings, could it be the mating season.

You lucky devils being up close and personal to one of these magniffiicent Beasts.

We need to protect them lest they become extinct. The population appears to be dwindling as it is.

Just last night I beckoned OH to the window to see the rare sight of an orange flashing light in the distance!

Still haven't seen one up close though (good job you had your camera with you Zaz!)!

We have a less flamboyant version of that come past every evening around 8pm.

There's a nesting area just a few metres from our work - they come and go all day but of course they ignore us completely - I suppose they're empty when they come home, they feed elsewhere apparently!

You don't realise how lucky you are! I haven't seen one during the whole snow period but there are rumours that they have been in the town.

We have one that circles past our house twice before flying off. It's only ever seen in the rain though, hardly ever in the snow & ice (too cold for it)

I've often wondered where does all the millions of tons of its' droppings go. I suppose a little may be used on the compost heap but not really sure. They must really clogg our drains.

Do they not migrate? usually when we get a spell of bad weather?

I think that if they do migrate Headfry, they certainly don't top off here en route
