....making your own seed trays for the bottom of your bird feeders?

I have some purpose bought ones that screw onto the bottom of some of my feeders but I also have some plastic feeders that do not have the option, so have been thinking about buying some cheap plastic saucers (the type for under plant pots) and glueing them on the bottom. Has anyone tried this and does it work?

( PS at the moment feeders are almost being emptied faster than I can keep up. Traded my loyalty points in at the seed merchants yesterday, and have spent nearly £700 since the scheme started ! )

I started making suet balls rather than using loose seed - it lasts longer, makes less mess and doesn't attract the woodpigeons
