  • Cuckoo's are back

Well, somebody had to start this - I heard the first cuckoo today, so much wildlife stuff going on, it's been so warm that even the kites are out and wheeling around.

Last year we heard one or two but the year before - not a one, neither at home or on local trips out.

We've had the woodpeckers here all winter, they haven't really been gone this year, think they overwintered the worse of it in December and then they've been drumming away since - and the tawny owls are just so noisy.

Now we DO have tawnys. And just across the road is a rookery. Don't talk to me about noisy birds. (And certainly don't mention budgies!)

Been away for the weekend, opened up the shutters this morning and walked out on the terrace to a real mix of sounds. There's a cuckoo in the near woods on one side singing so loud, a tawny off to the right equally noisy and the dawn chorus enough to waken the dead.

              Beautiful!!!

                That sounds fantastic Tony!!!

I've not heard a cookoo here at all- although there used to be one next to our lottie in Cheshire. I'd not heard one for years before that.
Lovely sound- always brings a grin to my face

France or not, still nice to hear they are on their way. I saw my first red admirable(I know it's admiral but I do admire them) yesterday which was really cheering but today, the male brass monkeys will need to be aware.
