New fly on the block

Found this unusual looking flying creature hanging out on my apple tree a couple of days ago. lovely to look at, not so good for the solitary bees though

Strange looking isn't it???...think it's quite pretty actually!!

Not seen one for ages- but maybe it's just as well since we're hoping to get some bees!!!!!

I'd never seen one until this year. The honey / hive / grouping bees should be OK it's the solitary ones that these chaps go for. A really good year for these little blighters apparently. I thought they were pretty cute too but have gone off them a little since the bee thing came out :-/
