5cm a week during the summer I don't think would be alot to be a honest, and we did have some really nice weather a couple of weeks ago, Is it still going down as fast now its a bit cooler?

Yeah if you have a pump of some kind running, It might be worth not using it for a while and see if the water is still going down as fast

the only other thing I can think of is, do you have any grass or other material at side of the pond that's also touching the pond water? it could be causing an effect called wicking, that can empty your pond quite quickly

      Problem solved (fingers firmly crossed).
We've found a leak in the hose that feeds the rill. With hindsight we should have checked the hose first, it being the most perishable part of the system. Having had one leak in the pond itself we made an assumption that something similar had happened again. Thanks to everyone for your fresh thoughts.

I would have thought evaporation over a leak. I'm glad you were able to get it fixed up. How did you manage to patch the leak?

Replaced the hose. I'm sure you're right that there's evaporation too but with all the rain we're having lately it's hard to tell.
