  • My pond .....

So there I was in the pouring rain lying full length up to my elbows in a rapidly filling pond.....

I decided to take advantage of a dip in the ground to create a pond . Day one (yesterday) and I dug out the area and created a deep bit and shelves and some gradual steps/slopes. Padded it out with sand and then used some liner underlay to make sure there were no sharp bits.
Nest onto the liner .......which was fun on my own . Stretch it out taut over the area so the instructions said and as it gradually fills smooth out any wrinkles ......Yeah that was fun as it started to pee it down before I'd got it stretched out .. getting it down into the deep end was the reason for the up to me elbows bit .
Anyways heres som piccies from day one........

    Day two...........

Today I buried the edges of the liner and spread some of it out to bury for a bog garden ....
Because the pond was filled with rain water , some as it fell the rest from my water butt we moved in some new occupants. A huge dollop of frogspawn arrived from my friends pond (hers is full to overflowing with it) also some oxygenating plant. Next up some reeds from another lottie neighbour .
Popped in a few logs to form an escape route ....
Now need to collect up some of the many pebbles from around the plot to cover the edges and sort out some more plants ....
And it now looks like this ....

It sounds like you had a load of fun doing all that Binley. I did a similar thing last spring at my allotment. Now, whenever I go to my lottie, I always enjoy a few minutes sat beside the pond seeing whats going on there while I have a bit of a breather.

Pleasure - I did ponds 3 separate times during my hort course so it was a pleasure to assist.

I have to say I'm seriously impressed!

Good looking pond for sure! We made one today too. Not so big tho. We are going to make a spiral herb garden out of rock, but that's the winter project. In the meantime I have some herbs that we put in, a semi circle of them, thinking the spiral garden would go in the middle eventually? Yeah, well the kelpie thought the dirt/newspaper/hay was a luverly bed! And then last night there must have been a mouse in there because the herbs were everywhere this morning. So we replanted it all. Build a little pond in the 'kelpie bed' and put the lone water lilly in it. Put a little fence around it, but since it's not electric tape it might not stop the kelpie. He knows what electric tape is. I don't turn it on often, but he knows it's not nice sometimes so he stays away. Hoping it's looking good tomorrow. Last time I tried to have an outside fish pond the pup kept dancing in it. ;(
