Birds in the house!

Just had a blue tit fly in through the open door and zoom around, perching on curtain rails
and bumping into windows. I opened every window that I could and eventually it flew out.
Since this often happens, what is the best way to let birds escape without damaging themselves?

That's what I tried to do but the upstairs is more or less open plan so we were going round and round in circles!

Good idea RL, that might work as long as it was in the part of the house with curtains! I still have someway to go on the decorative detail here!!
