Now that is a pity oh well, do right by them then and get them properly moved before some idiot comes and fumigates them

Thats a shame Kestrel but at least you have been able to watch them for a couple of days.
I admit to not knowing the regulations etc etc regarding beekeeping in residential areas and can only bee glad that our allotments do allow them, I am the only one who has any and the fellow plot holders have only been positive regarding them.
I spend more time watching than working!

Bee keeping is a complicated business and needs a lot of consideration before diving in. Neighbours will complain especially if they have children. It's also an expensive business. Hives can cost hundreds of pounds.

We are lucky as there are 2 hives on our site.

Dispute their right to object if they do not have a regulation for that purpose that has been confirmed by the Scottish Ministers in terms of section 6(1) Allotments(Scotland)Act 1892. I understand there was a similar situation in Glasgow with hens recentlyand the Council had to back down.

O get a box she says
                  collect the bees she says
                  keep them yourself she says

And what did I do when confronted with this very thing an hour ago?? I FREAKED

Then I calmed myself down, suited up lit the smoker and let out my breath
put my spare hive in the apiary, smoked the bees, collected them in a box (I dont have a skep but I will be getting one now)
put the box in front of the hive at an angle in the hope they will go in,,,

And then I got the hell out of Dodge!
Will go back up in a few hours to check on them
I have gone from one hive to three in a matter of weeks

O and they were very obligingly on the fencing of the apiary

Quick update, I managed to get hold of my mentor and got some drawn frames from him so I have put these into the brood chamber along with others.
90% of the swarm was inside with the stragglers milling around the entrance.
I have a strong suspicion that they have swarmed from my original hive even though the queen is only a year old and they have plenty of room.
I wish they would read the same books as me

So fingers crossed they will like their new digs and not clear off.
3 is definitely my limit! I now have no spare equipment left, I will be off to visit Brian at Thornes in the morning then
