I have a gravel tray in the garden that is full of water from the deluge we had in the week and has now got a (un)healthy(?) coating of algae (don't judge me!). Yesterday to my surprise I discovered a Water Boatmen beetle in there (it's quite a large gravel tray), swimming about and eating any stray flies that find themselves in there. It is very interesting to watch it swim about, I think it must have come from one of my neighbours' ponds. If I fish it out will it fly off, or should I pop it in a jam jar and take it round to one of the neighbours?

If it managed to find your gravel pit swimming pool, it should be able to find it's way to the next one.Ali
