  • bird boxes

I have 2 bluetit boxes in the garden, and one is regularly used by a pair of bluetits - the female sleeps in it all winter, then cleans it out in Spring, rebuilds, and nests in it. She seems to be sitting now.

The other box, I've recently noticed, has become a bachelor pad, and the male bird sleeps in it. Whether he did over winter I don't know, but he definitely is sleeping there now. Is this usual, or is he just preventing another pair of birds from moving into his garden and nesting?

No, they are very luvvy-dovey, he keeps bringing her gifts of tiny morsels of fat ball and tiny caterpillars.
And he won't allow goldfinches or long tailed tits in the garden now, though he has to put up with sparrows and greenfinches, 'cos they fight back!
