New garden, where do I start?

Hi All,

I have a post on another thread explaining about my "new garden". In essence I have a blank canvass and need to know what is good to plant to attract wildlife: bugs/butterflies/bees and birds and also compliment a garden being a garden and partly veggie patch too.

And, being this time of year, is there anything I can do this year?

I always sow poached egg plants, english marigolds and verbena they are all really pretty plants and the bugs love them. Sunflowers the birds like.
