Busy bees..........

I know theres supposed to be a shortage of bees generally but I've deffo seen more bees 'working' the flowers this year than last year.

We had a bee orgy going on in the pumpkin flowers yesterday, about 10 in each flower. Never seen so many huddling all together.

I've got all sorts this year, they are loving the borage and comfrey especially. I think it's a better year for them, too Snadger although they will travel huge distances for these plants. I've also let lots of herbs run to flower and seed which is proving a big attraction to some of the solitary bees like Wool Carders. I'm pretty sure I sure I've got Tree Bumble Bees so that's a long way West for them. I haven't seen any of the really huge bees around for years though and there used to be quite a few of those, presumably a strain of one of the other common species.

There's never a shortage of bees on my lotty. I have lots of flowers around the place, as do many of my fellow (organic-ish) plotters.

There are still lots of plotters who will ONLY grow veg though, won't even give a single inch to a flower. They haven't made the bees = veg connection yet, probably never will

tons of bees about this year. Many bumble bees on the comfrey on my plot and the honey bees came for the poached egg plants and phacelia and now the globe artichokes!

I guess it depends on the area and the weather there for the past few weeks.
