  • Possible mole problem

Hi, went to allotment today and discovered what looks like 5 large mole hills.
Have had a quick look at several neighbours plots but there seems no sign of mole hills in their plots.
What is the major damage a mole can do?
Was wondering about this method to get rid of them. I have heard that moles are noise sensitive so was thinking if I stuck a bamboo cane in the middle of the mole hills and stuck a bottle on top would the rattling disturb the moles?
Just a thought. Any ideas anyone?

They're a real pain in the ar5e. I have them coming up through the gravel round the pond. Funnily enough
All my beds have milk cartons on canes (10 foot from the pond) & no sign of Mr Mole so maybe you have something there.

I mentioned my mole problem to my mom and she said the usual stick garlic down the middle of the hill cause of the smell but then she said they don't like noise. So thought about the kids running and jumping by the hills to cause vibrations then I thought about the bamboo canes and the bottles.
Want to get rid of them nicely.

What I'm about to suggest isn't very pleasant but it seems to work for me. I've posted something similar several times in the past. Have you got a cat? Dig through the mole hill until you find the tunnel. Once located (and this is the nasty bit) put a good load of cat excrement into the tunnel. I assume that the moles associate the smell with a predator and so vacate the area. Soon clears moles from my plot.

I have had similar success using pelleted chicken manure (seems to scupper the predator theory) but it works. Give it a go. What harm can it do? Got to be better than trapping and killing surely?

My granddad use to use poisons years ago when it was the normal thing to do. My uncle is a gamekeeper and years ago he use to have to try and trap them.
My kids would be devastated if I hurt the moles. I know but you know what kids are like and I would never knowingly hurt them.
So I think it is going to be the bamboo and bottle method.

Or, buy several bottles of beer. Drink the beer and bury the bottles in the runs with the tops sticking out. Wind blowing across the tops makes a noise and drives the moles away. Ferret po works as well.

Someone suggested that I put dry holly leaves down the hole. That'll give 'em a shock............

I was given a large bag of ferret poo not long ago from a fellow Grape to help control my mole problem!

A most unusual gift I'm sure you agree

...and so I did a bit of goooogling and lo and behold there IS information about it being used successfully!

Apparently you shove a bit down their run in various locations.
Do you know anyone with a ferret?- or, is there a ferret rescue shelter near you?

I've tried all sorts of things and to be honest not seen much of a difference!..and so I'm looking forward to trying this out!
...typically though , we've not had a molehill in the garden since I received to poo!

                  Certainly worth a try!
