Sparrow versus mouse

Gardening today my granddaughter and I saw a baby mouse. Very cute but far too close to the house as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway, watched it run farther away from the back door and forgot about it.
OH came back from cricket a couple of hours later and in mid sentence he suddenly started excitedly pointing back to the spot I had seen the baby earlier.
What was worse now though was a SPARROW attacking it and chasing it down the garden. It escaped by diving under the water feature but the sparrow didn't give up for ages.
Has anyone else seen this sort of thing. A magpie or crow I could understand, but a sparrow!!!!

Thanks for that Nicos. How sad am I though that when reading the article I caught the glaring spelling mistake immediately and it really annoyed me.
Back to the relevant sparrow. The mouse was nowhere near the food table and had just popped out of it's hidey hole so perhaps it was as the article said, the sparrow didn't recognise what it was and attacked first. Very odd thing to watch in any case.
What was even more strange was that we saw on Springwatch last night, the magpie and crow taking the baby rabbit and this was just like that.
The sparrow had it in its beak but it was too heavy, even though it was just a baby.

Perhaps the answer is that birds will eat anything. They aren't vegetarian as I discovered to my dismay when I saw one of my hens catching and devouring a frog...awful! I suppose a sparrow trying to catch a baby mouse is the same only in miniature!

I just checked...and sparrows are omnivores so they would clearly eat 'meat'

Hmmm. They aren't veggies, they just like them. MINE!!

I have loads of sparrows and the girls are definitely aggressive - especially at this time of year. There's quite a few spats between each other and the goldfinches (even a fledgling goldfinch will fight - one pecked Mr Robin today, who was a bit taken aback but took it well)
